Movie Review: Fast and Furious 6 (2013)

Fast and Furious 6 is one of the most anticipated 2013 movie releases.

Wouldn't be the best movie in my list, but definitely some intense action that I would enjoy. Honestly, I don't know much about cars but the cars look pretty amazing especially with all the stunts and racing. Surely a breathtaking scene that captured my attention. No spoilers because the story only had some twist here and there but wouldn't make a huge difference to your expectations. I watched the movie for the sake of the cars anyway. And there were some humour in the movie which I appreciated a lot.

But honestly, I like Fast and Furious 5 a lot better. That's just my opinion.

Here's a synopsis for you:
"Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of all-stars as the global blockbuster franchise built on speed races to its next continent in “Fast & Furious 6.” Reuniting for their most high-stakes adventure yet, fan favorites Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Elsa Pataky are joined by badass series newcomers Luke Evans and Gina Carano.

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.
Building on the worldwide blockbuster success of Fast Five and taking the action, stunts and narrative to even greater heights, “Fast & Furious 6″ sees director Justin Lin back behind the camera for the fourth time. He is supported by longtime producers Neal H. Moritz and Vin Diesel, who welcome producer Clayton Townsend back to the series."

There is one scene which I really love. Watch and you'll probably guess which one I'm referring to. And nope, it's not this picture above. Something way cooler. Actually, the intense movie plot seems more exciting at the back of the movie. But somehow Fast and Furious 5 had focused more on cars. That's how I feel about the movie. I loved the part in Fast 5 where each and every character has shown their key role in the team and how they work together so effectively. Not that Fast 6 is lacking it, but Fast 5 did show it more obviously.

Just my brief comparison on first impression. But it's still worth watching of course!!! After all, the story plot was still great and I have always loved watching action-pack movies. Now it's action PLUS super cool cars super cool cars WITH AEROPLANE AND ARMY TANK.

Paddington House of Pancakes

AHHHH. I'm back with MORE FOOD. Again. So sorry I will try to update more about other stuff instead of only food. Heheh I just cannot resist delicious food. This time round we went to try pancakes from other restaurants. Enough of Strictly Pancakes for the time being! Spotted this restaurant at City Square Mall...

Paddington House of Pancakes
(Reminds me of Paddington Bear...) -_-

Actually I spotted this restaurant some time ago, but somehow we didn't step into it because I thought it wasn't very nice due to little people inside. But when I read reviews, I realized that it is worth a try!

See, it's filled with lots of people in the restaurant. And there was a queue too. Looks like I made the right choice!

What attracted my attention was this. 100 pancakes from all over the world? It's a great opportunity for me to taste different kind of pancakes. It's time I break out of my comfort zone. I have been choosing "safe" dishes all the time to make sure that it's something I would like.

Okay, but seriously? 100 pancakes is going to give me a great deal of headache when I'm making my choice!!!

We were given a nice comfy corner seat which I like very much!

Fries lover as he always is, my boyf ordered Cheesy Wedges & Fries ($8)

"Fries & wedges, Belgium style with grilled cheddar, crispy chicken bacon bits, basil leaves & tangy mayonnaise"

Tasting great like how it looks! I didn't know that the brown pieces were bacon bits at the start though. It tasted a bit weird on the first mouth but after knowing that it's bacon, it somehow magically tasted nicer. "Self-fulfilling prophecy!!" Correct me if I'm wrong :/ Hahah. Too much of studies.

Anyway it's a unique dish because I've never tasted bacon bits before in the whole of my life!

Nice ($16)

It's really the dish name, not my comment "Nice" about the dish!

"Crepes with chicken grilled mozzarella, chicken bacon, mushrooms, prawns, pineapple & creamy mushroom sauce"

The dish name says it all. NICE. Kinda weird to have this kind of dish name but to think of it, it actually do make sense! After all, it's really nice and yummy! Wouldn't say it's the best crepe I've ever tasted. But definitely is something new and different. Something I wouldn't be able to taste elsewhere in SG. First time having prawn and chicken in crepe. And the chicken actually tasted really great! It was chewy and I just love how everything is so perfect when put together. Even pineapple which I don't usually like tasted really sweet.

Pot of Gold ($10)

"Dollar pancakes with nuts, marshmallows, chocolate sauce & ice cream"

Even if I'm not a fan of chocolate, this dish really attracted my attention because of the cute bite-sized pancakes. Who says pancakes must be big anyway? Love this fun-sized, mini little pancakes which seems so convenient to just pop into your mouth! I would love to try The Treasure Box next time. Which is a similar version of dollar pancakes, but with strawberry, banana, peach and all those fruits that I love!

I've tried one bite and there's peanut butter taste in it. Not to my liking but I can tell that this Pot of Gold is really worth the money $_$

My boy spamming his favourite Chocolatey sauce all over his pancakes.

I was so thrilled when I looked at the menu because of all the yummlicious crepes and pancakes that I know I would love to eat so much. It's like "Omg omg omg omg omgggggggg" I'm so excited. Okay, maybe I'm over-reacting but I just can't stand it when there's my favourite food in so many varieties! I'm definitely going back to try more new stuff!

Addiction for Buffets // Marriot Hotel

I have this recent addiction and craze towards buffets, have no idea why. I guess that's the reason why I have put on more weight recently. In which!! It's a good thing for me provided the fats don't go to my waist. People tell me that I have to eat more and grow more. But some have no idea how much I eat every single day :/ Ain't a good thing to be skinny, so stop envying.

Anyway, here's some FOOD PORN for you all. Taken during the High-tea buffet at Marriot Hotel. Fresh and succulent prawns to make you drool! I probably ate about 10 prawns on that day. Saw the oysters at the back? Mehhhhh. They tasted so weird and unfresh. I immediately spat some out after tasting it.

Sushi was at mediocre standard and there were no Sashimi. Can't expect much because not all high-tea buffet serves seafood. I would prefer seafood over sashimi.

Want to make your own Rojak?

If there's no Sashimi, maybe you can go for some smoked salmon instead? I cannot tell if smoked salmon is nice because I personally don't really like eating it. I'm quite a picky eater.

But the salad corner was great! Really fresh vege with a variety of condiments and sauces. My favourite is Thousand Island! Still the best salad dressing ever.

Freshly baked bread, looks delicious too.

I immediately went for a hot bowl of Laksa after going for a few rounds of prawns. You can DIY your own bowl of laksa and I added some other things like Crab meat which isn't even supposed to be in Laksa in the first place. But I love it this way :3

After they helped you cook your bowl of noodles, you can just scoop the hot soup into your bowl.

I was so glad that I ate this earlier because not long later, the white noodles are out of stock and they are not refilling anymore. Something that disappoints us at the end of the day because they are not refilling the nice food that are not available.. I think that's not a very nice thing to do because customers like us will feel upset. And laksa noodles are not the only food item that is not available.

Ice-kachang. I would prefer my ice-kachang coming out from the Ice machine though. Sometimes its the process that is fun!

Ice-cream corner with lots of gummy bear sweets. My bro & I took a bowl of it to just eat the sweets! Childhood sweets and still loving it. I need a packet of it to survive in school ):

Desserts and pastries which don't taste really nice. Didn't bother taking anymore.

Some refreshing fruits to quench your thirst!

Overall, the food was average, some delicious and some not at all. You probably won't want to come here if you're not a fan of prawns. Food that were out of stock not available for refill and they would replace it with something else. But white noodles for Laksa being out of stock is something unacceptable for me because many people likes to have Laksa at buffets. Not forgetting that the time was still early when they stopped refilling the empty plates.

But I shall be contented because I still enjoy the time spent with my family. And it was also a belated Mother's Day celebration because my father and I wasn't free on the actual day. My father went on a business trip while I was working. Sorry mum! But I still love you even if you're not reading this :D

Thank you for everything you have given me for the past 20 years. And all the sweet messages are here for you.

A photo of us ♥

P.S. My brother has baking talents, he baked the Mocha cheesecake. He has taken over my "baking job" hahaha!

19 May 2013

So sorry for the lack of update! I have been really busy with schoolwork recently. And I did realize that I have never talked about my school life over here in my blog! I really need to rant a little. School might sound easy with 3 days of lessons from 12-6, but it's a 3-month module reduced to 6-weeks. First week of school and I have to revise 4 full chapters, having an exam on the second week and group project due on the second week as well.

Here's some of my friends' tweets:
"Summer course : Insanity for 5 weeks. TWICE .. Sigh"

"4 projects 4 midterms and 2 finals in 6wks"

Not forgetting, to get an A, we have to get above 95%. My jaws dropped!!! OHMYGODDDD, that is a super high standard!!! If 95% is only for 1 exam, still possible. But with all the class participation, projects, assignments, miscellaneous stuff, 95% is a real challenge.

Have already planned to meet up with my friends every Wednesday and Friday to chill at Starbucks to study together. I really need to do well!!

Everyone lets work hard, and play hard after that!!

Stay tuned to a few food and outing posts!!!

First book out day

For those who didn't know, my boyf was just enlisted to police NS 2 weeks ago!! That explains my title! Now, he's back in again. Very lucky that he was posted to Police instead of Army though.

Met up on the 2nd book out day on Saturday to satisfy all his cravings! Actually, he didn't tell me what he want, I just chose it for him because I know what he wants. Turns out its right! Or probably because he is always craving for the same few.

OOTD// New outfit!
Red Sleeveless Turtleneck Top
Black Skater Skirt
Black Heels
Black Studded Bag (Not shown here)
Black Statement Necklace sponsored by Castle Dream

First craving: Strictly Pancakes

Instead of going to the Prinsep Street, we went to the East Coast Road outlet. Restaurant was much spacious and it was much easier to order.

Garlic Buttered Prawns

"Medium stack served with prawns buttered generously with garlic and cherry tomato salad on the side for an aromatic, mouth-watering treat"

It already smells so great the moment they served this dish. The prawns were really sweet and I love how butter complements perfectly with garlic. It was a very filling and satisfying pancake dish!

The Druggie

"Indulge in the ultimate chocolate fix with three chocolate pancakes served with chocolate ice cream sprinkled with chocolate flakes and sliced strawberries topped off with our own homemade chocolate sauce"

My boy's usual favourite. No thanks for me :3

Second craving: Ssikkek Korean BBQ Buffet

I always insisted not to visit this restaurant again after my first try because I really didn't like the ambience and variety of food. But this time for boyf's sake, I plan this out for him ^^

The whole buffet spread only covered this amount of food. There were roughly 4 types of Beef and I only go for Beef at Teppanyaki most of the time unless they have super nice chicken like in Seoul Garden. Besides, Seoul Garden has hotpot too, makes it less boring. But I got to admit that the quality of beef in Sikkek BBQ is pretty nice at that pricing!

The meat section contains Beef short plate, Beef bulgogi, Beef ribeye, Beef short rib, Marinated pork, Pork collar, Pork marinated rib, Pork belly, Bacon and Marinated Chicken.

My favourite was the Beef short rib (Bottom right) because it has the most taste and the texture was nicest. I love it when I can wrap it up with lettuce and dip into some spicy sauce. Perfect combination in Korean BBQ.

Actually the rest of the beef was quite acceptable to me too, maybe I just don't prefer huge chunks of meat and I'm lazy to cut it :x

My boy just kept spamming his bacon, that's the main purpose why we're at this restaurant anyway. I realize guys love bacon a lot a lot a lot. Wonder why :/

Oh and I never tried a single pork there. HAHA

Apparently, everyone in the restaurant likes the bacon too. Because look at how empty it is!

Some sushi but it doesn't look very appetizing anyway.

Some condiments and also other food like Squid, prawn, Enoki mushroom, etc. I like cooking my beef with the onion so that there's onion taste! And I always see that those teppanyaki chefs put the cooked beef on top of the onion. Tries to act professional but FAIL :/

I cooked the prawns with much effort but I ended up taking a few bites only because the prawn was not up to standard and it didn't taste really fresh and sweet..

I love the corn because it's mixed with some dressing which is super duper delicious! I kept taking a few plates of it with a few tiny baby tomatoes. It's kinda refreshing to have some during a heaty meal. Alternatively you can choose to eat watermelons like my boy.

Happily cooking on the Teppanyaki stove. The bad thing about this place is that you will come out of the place smelling like BBQ. I had to wash my hair 4 times to get rid of the smell completely ): Ventilation isn't sufficient in the restaurant and very unluckily, we had our seat without any ventilation above. It was kind of smoky too.

After giving a second chance to this restaurant, maybe it's not that bad after all. And the restaurant is really popular because even after 830pm, there was still a super long queue outside. Just remember to turn up earlier as they don't take reservations and the queue is really slow especially during the standard meal time hour.

$14++ Lunch on Weekdays
$24++ Dinner on Weekdays, Lunch and Dinner on Weekends

Outlet I went to:
Tampines One, #04-22/23

Although it wasn't really something I fancy a lot, it was an enjoyable time to feast with boyf after his training inside NS for 10 days. Already thinking about this coming week's meal plans!!!
