Food buddies // Korean Big Bang BBQ Restaurant (KBB)

I think it's awesome that Serene & I met one another and became close friends since JC! Because somehow we share similar character and also the same hobby of EATING. Outings can never be dull when both of us are food lovers.

If you think that I have a ridiculously huge appetite compared to other girls & maybe some guys (Apparently many of my friends said so), then I can tell you this girl over here eat more than I do!

When we head out, I can't stop thinking of buffets because that is probably the only thing that sounds more worth it and also gives us more time to sit down and catch up with one another. So I chanced upon this Groupon voucher - Korean Big Bang BBQ (KBB) ($37.80 for 2 - Weekday Dinner). It sounds like a pretty good deal so I bought it. $19 each is definitely a dirt cheap price for a dinner buffet.

Being kiasu, we both decided to have dinner at 5pm so we can sit there and eat as long as we can. (But this point is invalid, and you will know why later on) Which is also one bad point about this restaurant that we're both really unhappy with.

The ambience looks quite comfortable and cosy for a steamboat and teppanyaki restaurant. After all, the tables are quite spaced out and it's quite big so there's plenty of place for us to put plates and plates of meat :3

And there's a hidden compartment under the seat! If you don't want your belongings to stink, just put it under the seat. But don't forget to take your stuff when you leave!

This looks like a bar counter but it's actually a separate corner for the buffet food. When Serene was inside taking food, a customer even mistook her for working there and asked her what's the buffet pricing (Which is kinda dumb because who wears like that to work in a restaurant).

Pork and Chicken corner

I'm not a fan of BBQ pork meat so I didn't take much, tried one and I already regretted. I was attracted to the Chicken Bulgogi at the start but it's no way comparable to the standard of Seoul Garden. I mean if it's not super tasty, still understandable, but it's actually very salty!!

Beef corner with some other noodles, egg, vege

Thankfully, the beef is up to standard and I really like eating the Ribeye. On first look you can already tell that the meat is very soft and tender, and already looking very appetizing. It doesn't have the rough or dry texture. It's juicy and you are able to chew into the meat easily. Mix it with some lettuce to balance out the taste and it's perfect! Serene preferred the beef roll which is non-marinated. It reminds me of sukiyaki kind of beef. I think all the beef taste great!

When we both saw the mayo corn, we were like OMG. And we took a full bowl of it. But on first mouth, I felt disappointed because the corn isn't crunchy and fresh like Sikkek BBQ.

There are some Kimchi and other ingredients like corn, prawns, etc for you to mix your own soup base. We were doubtful at the start for just throwing Kimchi into the plain boiling water, but it actually tastes so powerful and flavoursome! You should try if you have a love for spicy taste!

Seafood corner

These were pretty average to me, but with the Kimchi soup, obviously everything taste 10x better!

And yes, about the "invalid point" I've mentioned earlier, we were really upset about the restaurant. Because when I called few days ago to make a reservation, I clearly asked TWICE, if there is any time limit on eating. On the second time I even explained it like asking "So if I come at 5, Can I stay and eat till anytime?" The person said YES. But we were sort of being "chased out" after 2 hour plus!

I don't care if they did put under their terms and conditions in their restaurant, obviously if I called and checked, I wouldn't go and try looking for all these notices when I step into the restaurant! So angry about that because we both can eat more! I explained to the person there but she just doesn't bother saying that the rules are like that.

I think that if you have delivered a promise to the customer, you should just be flexible with your so-called rules. Losing a few more plates of meat isn't as bad as losing two customers and maybe more.

Okay, enough of ranting!! Anyway both of us were not really full, so we went to walk around and get food at Toa Payoh Int. We both went to try Beans Talk which also had a super long Q! But something great about this is that you can customize your own beancurd with different toppings! I picked Beancurd & Grass jelly mix with mango toppings but we feel that toppings isn't really worth it. But I didn't know the combination of grass jelly & beancurd taste better than just beancurd itself!!

Some camwhore photos of us!!

Let's go to some food fair soon!! :DD

Everyone is probably crazy over this recent character - MINIONS! From Despicable Me and the 2nd episode is coming out in 4th July! I am really anticipating for the movie to be released! And here's a nail art tutorial for you girls to DIY over the week before the show is out!

DISCLAIMER: I'm not a professional manicurist and I decorated my nails out of fun, so pardon me if it isn't as perfect (:

Photo taken outside Cathay last week!

Here's the basic nail art materials you would require:

● Nail polish (Grey, Black, White, Yellow, Blue)
● Base coat Nail polish
● Nail polish remover to remove any excess (Not necessary)
● A set of dotting tools with different sizes

And you're all ready to begin! I grouped the photos together for illustration purposes. You can read below for more detailed instructions.

TAKE NOTE* Instruction below does not follow the photo number

1. Paint base coat on your nails to protect your nails
2. Paint over yellow coat fully
3. Paint blue coat on the french tip of you nails
(For this step, I used the brush directly from the bottle)
4. Use the smallest size of the dotting tool and draw grey circles for the eyes
5. Use a bigger dotting tool and dot the white part of the eyes
6. Use small dotting tool to draw the black part of the goggles and also dot the black part of the eye
7. Paint a black patch for the mouth
8. Use the dotting tool to dot in the teeth using white, and the tongue using pink
9. Fill in the hair using a marker
10. Repeat the steps for your other minions with different expressions!

For my case, I didn't draw any banana for the minions. But if you're interested, you can actually add in banana fimo canes! Simple and easy step.

What excites me to catch The Lone Ranger

A new DISNEY show is coming up - THE LONE RANGER! Featuring Johnny Depp who is known to have a comical and quirky character in his acting roles. And of course, it's also one of the reasons why I am excited to catch this movie! Filled with intense actions and also humour, The Lone Ranger is sure to make me feel thrilled and excited throughout the movie. I always loved movies which have comical scenes in addition to fighting and gun action.

“THE LONE RANGER” also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter, and is directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski.

I am anticipating to have a great laugh during this movie!

Psst, you're gonna have some sneak peek for some scenes below, and of course not only pictures!

This seems pretty normal, right?

And how about this?!

Escaping on horses is normal, but ever see one escape on a horse in the train cabin? I'm looking forward to all the action scenes!

I think this is the best so far, having a heels which can fire at someone is really cool! Like, "WATCH OUT! *Lift up your leg* BANG!!!" I want that secret weapon too! After you shoot, you just walk away like nothing ever happened.

And probably some violent yet romantic scenes :3

I bet most of you are excited to catch this movie as well! Watch the trailer here:

Movie Review: Man of Steel (2013)

This is such an overdue post! I've actually watched Man of Steel when the movie just released. But I conveniently forgotten about it so here I am now, blogging about the review!

Here's a short sypnosis

"In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha and Jonathan Kent, Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves."

It was overall a great movie to watch, with exhilarating fighting and smashing scenes. I love how Clark Kent/Kal-El (Superman) and Zod, the Kryptonian villain smashed through a couple of buildings across the streets and how they managed to shoot up into space within mere seconds. I think that is the coolest part of the movie. The action scenes are no doubt perfect and exciting.

I like this sentence he said to the army,"Just because you can't control me doesn't mean I'm your enemy." He even let them handcuffed him to make them feel safer and more secured. It's quite funny to see the people's reaction when he break off from the handcuff like a piece of cake.

Something I dislike a little about the movie is that the movie is a little to draggy at the start. I understand that the story has to be built up right from the beginning to explain about Clark Kent/Kal-El's origin and history. But with such a long story, my mind somehow drifted away. Another downside is that Zod seemed to vulnerable and easy to get killed by Superman at the end. The Kryptonians looked so invincible at the start such that I feel it was too abrupt.

Oh and thank god, Superman didn't have his red underwear on! That's one major thing that I didn't like about Superman before.

Movie Review: World War Z (2013)

World War Z featuring Brad Pitt (Gerry)

One of the more awesome Zombie Apocalypse movie I've ever watched. Impressive, I would say. The movie had a brilliant start with a sudden explosive action followed by major accidents happening on the road. People were panicking and fleeing from the "zombies" who were coming out from nowhere. I was already captivated at the first action scene.

I'm a sucker for horror and zombie movies but ironically, I'm easily frightened by the scary effects. Some parts of the movie were even similar to one of my favourite game Left 4 Dead.

Why would I say impressive? Now just take a look at this scene.. The amount of zombies were almost uncountable and they were piling on top of one another to climb up such a huge wall. I've never watched a movie that has THIS HUGE AMOUNT of zombies. The entire world was plagued with zombies.

Oh, and that's one of my favourite scene. Being such a sadist.

Gerry managed to escape from the hoard of zombies and secured his family to safety. But he was then called into service to find the source of the zombie outbreak. For the safety of his family and the fate of humanity, Gerry followed the troop to different cities to find out the source and eventually he found out a temporary cure.

I love this scene where they have to sneak past 80 zombies in a research building to get the "cure". It's totally like being in a game where the characters have to go past rooms and stages to the final destination. With a pistol, axe, and baseball bat, I can't help but ask. Where is the chainsaw? Hahaha.

Audience kept laughing at the scenes in the research building because it was quite funny at some point of time. And one of the zombie even sounded like a dinosaur! Not kidding. If you close your eyes, you would probably think that you're watching some Jurassic Park.

Overall, I loved the movie and wouldn't mind watching it again for all the zombie action. But I feel that the movie probably only caters to people like me, who are horror lovers and like watching zombies so much. But other than that, I think that the explosive and action effects are fantastic and it's really worth the money. The story line makes sense with a proper ending even though it didn't have a very perfect one like how all zombies are killed (Because that is unrealistic). But I have watched one zombie movie which ended so abruptly I hated it. The zombie attacks were exaggerated but appropriate.

White Skull Chiffon Top

I love how the simplicity comes with a hint of edgy style. Chiffon tops are one of the best basic choices when you are just unwilling to wear something too dressy or body-hugging. With the gold studs and skull embedded on the collar and scattered around the top, this piece stands out with uniqueness. Even the buttons are in gold studs.

Monochrome fashion has always been popular and classic. Even with just two colours Black & white, you will never look dull from it. Completing my Monochrome look with a Black Skater Skirt and Black Studded Bag. Didn't match with any necklaces as I want to keep it simple.

I'm loving the golden skull and studs so much!

If you do not like Monochrome, you can always pair it with more daring colours like Red and Pink that creates the more fun and sexy look.
