Movie Review: Turbo (2013)

Who would ever expect that a snail will speed up to 200km/h just like a racecar?

Turbo (2013) is a funny and simple animated film with strong positive messages like having big dreams and believing in yourself. It was quite an inspiring movie to kids and adults as well, with their encouraging phrase "No dream is too big, and no dreamer is too small." Turbo (Known as Theo) was a garden snail, who constantly dreams of being the greatest racer in the world. Opposed and mocked by other snails as well as his brother Chet, he did not give up his dream.

It seemed so impossible but he believed that he could fulfill his dream one day.

Turbo desperately wants to escape the "slow" life he has been living. Miraculously, he gained incredibly fast speed after an accident. He got sucked into the internal engine of the racecar and had nitrous oxide fused with his DNA, causing him to own the characteristics of a car, such as eyes that blinks like headlight, his shell lighting up and also making car sounds and music.

After which Turbo embarks himself on an extraordinary journey with a Taco owner named Tito, together with his brother and other fellow snail mates. Turbo even wanted to take part in the world race - Indianapolis 500, even when Angelo (Tito's brother) and Chet thought that it was such a ridiculous and insane idea.

This impossible feat is soon accepted by people around Turbo and even became an online sensation. There is no doubt that Turbo would succeed in the end, the plot was straightforward and simple as it is. With occasional humour and funny scenes in the movie, Turbo is sure to delight all  kids. It's a wonderful animation with colourful visuals, entertaining characters and strong positive themes.

As the story plot is really straightforward with no twists and turns, the movie might turn out dull for some as everything is expected. However, it would be recommended for family bonding time with younger kids as they would enjoy the movie and even learn something good out of the movie.

It wasn't something very thrilling or exciting, but I would admit that it is quite a funny and comical animation to enjoy when your brain is too tired to watch thriller movies. I particularly enjoyed the scene where the snails unleash their "power" and "machine parts" at the start of each race. It was quite amusing to see snails with such "racing outfits"! Or you could take a look at the poster below and you will know what I mean!
