Nakhon Kitchen @ Bedok North

Thai food is always on the top of my craving lists and it has also been my recent food addiction! I think that the simple reason is due to the spiciness of the food. It has a very distinct spicy taste which I really love! Especially green curry with coconut milk is simply amazingly delicious!

Nakhon Kitchen, known to many Thai food lovers, is situated in the heartland of Bedok where the queuing time takes about 30 minutes or more. The place is not air-conditioned and rather open, but considering the fact that the food is so tasty and affordable (with no service charge/ GST), I guess I wouldn't really mind!

I have been to Nakhon Kitchen twice for the past week already, and a couple of times in the past. I still haven't got sick of the food and I'm even craving for it again!

Thai Iced Tea

I can't really do any fair comparisons as I hardly ever drink Thai iced tea, but I would say that I'm loving the sweet original taste of it! A perfect thirst quencher when you order spicy food. I would prefer to opt for less ice as the drink would become really diluted at the end of the meal.

Green Curry - Chicken

My absolute favourite dish of all time! The sweet fragrance, richness of the creamy coconut milk and subtle spiciness of this green curry is so enticing to my taste buds! And within it contains tender and soft chicken meat that is soaked in the delicious green curry gravy. Plain white rice can never be missed out when it comes to curry or tom yum! The gravy is pretty much on the thin side in which I preferred, as I could enjoy it as gravy or soup.

There are other choices of prawn or beef as well.

Stir-fried Kang Kong (Thai)

The amount of chilli they added in was absolutely numbing our tongues and burning our throats! Too spicy for my liking even when I specifically requested for less chilli.. I think it was a waste.

Honey Chicken

The Honey Chicken was actually one of our favourite dishes to order at Nakhon Kitchen! Being well-fried with a slight crispy texture, this dish was full of goodness. It really left a great impression on me when I first tried it long ago.

Pineapple Rice

The pineapple rice was really fragrant with crunchy shrimps added into it. Well, I still prefer green curry with rice!

Ayam Penyet RIA (Smashed Fried Chicken) at Bedok Mall

I met up with Khadijah after such a long time and we decided to dine at Ayam Penyet RIA. I have always walked past this restaurant, and the decoration theme attracted my attention. I was always tempted to try it out some day.

Ayam Penyet RIA offers the "taste of Indonesia" as it is an authentic Indonesian restaurant. Most of the marinades and spices are also imported direct from Indonesia, which probably explains why the chilli is so fiery hot. Using wood and bird cages hung onto the ceiling as their decoration, the restaurant provides a very traditional and cosy feel. It is also a fast food style with self-order service at the counter. It is almost like a place for us to sit down, have a quick meal, and leave the moment we're done.

I was curious to know why it is called "Smashed Fried Chicken" and went to search it up on the web. Yes, it is literally smashed to make the meat more soft and tender. Please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

Khadijah's order:
Bawal Penyet (Smashed Pomfret)

My order:
Sayap Penyet (Smashed Chicken Wings)

The dish was piping hot when served! I could barely handle the chicken as it was too hot for me. The chicken wing had a perfect crunchiness and I could feel the oiliness of the chicken oozing into my mouth as I sink my teeth in. I just adore oily food! (Sounds pretty unhealthy I know). The cereal bits gave an extra light crisp and texture to the chicken and the rice (Which is included in Khad's set, not mine).

And for the chilli, don't underestimate it.. It looks pretty normal here in the picture. But it is really fiery hot. My suggestion is to be easy on the chilli on the first try, or you'll just regret the moment you place a huge chunk into your mouth. While the hotness of the chilli is burning my throat, the taste is actually pretty addictive as it adds a kick to the plain chicken wings. Only for the chilli lovers!

The price is really affordable like any fast food chains and it caters to anybody, especially those who are on tight budget and just want to have a quick and cheap meal! Although I couldn't judge if the food was authentic as I hardly consume Indonesian cuisine, I would say that the taste is pretty decent for such a low price and I wouldn't mind revisiting this place when I do not want to splurge on food!

Japan Trip #6 // Nara Park 奈良公園 // Tajimaya 但馬屋

Nara Park 奈良公園

If you are fond of farm and tamed animals like deers, you will definitely love the interaction with hundreds of freely roaming deer. Nara Park (Nara Koen), established in 1880, is a large park in central Nara. Nara Park has close to 1200 deers. It has become a symbol of the city and have been designated as a natural treasure.

At Nara Park, the deers are free from enclosures and they just roam anywhere they liked. It was simply a joy to just walk up to them, stroke them, hug them and even feed them with deer crackers sold all around the park for just 150yen (SGD$1.80). The deer are surprisingly tamed but they can be a pain in the ass at times. I meant literally, as it might nudge you aggressively with its head, and pester you to feed them.

After all, these deers are wild animals so they could become aggressive at times and occasionally attack people. So... be careful!

It was such a beautiful sight to see herds of deers galloping around the green patches of grass.

Either the deers are hungry or greedy, because one of the deers resorted to "stealing" from somebody's bike! Such a sneaky and clever fella.

You cute little creature, staring innocently >_< I just can't believe I've stepped into this piece of heaven. I've always wished to interact with animals so closely!!!

"You want a photo of me? Come, I show you my butt!"

The deer snacks here are really affordable and cheap! We spent about SGD20, but it lasted us for a few hours! One technique is to break the biscuits into smaller pieces as you turn round and round to feed so many deers. Because the food will be gone in seconds and they start nudging you for more.

I feel like half an animal because of the outfit I have chosen hahaha. Do I blend in with the deers?

It makes me feel so happy to be around those fluffy adorable deers! I wish that I could just take one home with me heheh.

My brother feeding the deers | |

HAHA. Some funny moments I snapped. The deers trying to snatch the snack off my brother's hand.

And turned out one of them wanted a kiss too!

Tajimaya 但 斎橋

Tajimaya specializes in its charcoal grilled meat, and provides an extra pleasure of barbecuing the food by yourself. The black stone plate and utensils give the impression of black charcoal and this gives a very traditional Japanese feel. We were also given a room by ourselves and I absolutely enjoy privacy while dining in a group.

The only matter that bothered us a little is that the place was a little too warm and stuffy and it was unbearable to still barbecue at such an uncomfortable temperature. Otherwise, this restaurant is really affordable (according to my dad), we were also provided with excellent service and the food tasted superb!

I shall not go into details of every dish as I don't even know the names of the dishes. The food we ordered were simply recommended by the staff as everything in the menu was in Japanese. Thankfully, there were English-speaking staff or else we will have a hard time communicating :/

The beef is tender, juicy and literally melts in your mouth when you eat them! Wagyu beef definitely lives up to its exorbitant price as they are all of excellent quality! And have I not mentioned that the prices here are lower than some other places which serve similar quality food and service?

As you can see from the photos, the beef has a consistent marbling effect of the fats which gives a even more tender and smooth texture to it. Tender is probably an understatement..

Enjoy the photos and drool!
