Tart Blanc @ Millennia Walk

I'm always searching for great deals online when I have nothing to do. Turned out that I was lucky enough to find a Groupon deal for tart blanc which is located at Millennia Walk.  It's a small little cafe which mainly serves tarts and sandwiches/ wraps. Let's just say that the tart is really the focus of this cafe as the other food is not too impressive for my liking. 

Anyway I don't think that the groupon voucher is available anymore, but if you are curious, I paid $25 for $50 worth of voucher. That means it's 50% off and I think it's really worth the deal. Actually $50 seems a little too much, but I think it's always better to order more than to try and pick the cheapest item on the menu. Since it's half priced, why not right? #justeatonly




A day before visiting the cafe, I was already searching for photos online and also the hashtag on instagram to look at the yummilicous tarts. I spotted a Miffy design on Instagram but it was not available that day. The cute yellow chick was pretty tempting too but I wasn't interested in the favour, so I decided to go for taste instead of looks. 



The wraps were not really worth the money as the meat was very tough and dry, and I had a really hard time chewing on them. 

Anyway check out the cute minions! So happy to be able to collect the entire set of minions! (My fave set) ♥






But fortunately, the tarts were wowww! Totally worth your money spent.


Tiramisu Tart

Espresso shell with Jivara ganache, Coffee genoise and Mascarpone mousse


Don't be belittled by this plain looking tart, it's packed with layers of awesomeness on the inside when I cut it open. The tart is worth the price also because it's super filling. One is probably enough if you are ordering other savoury food as well. I like the bittersweet flavor of the Tiramisu and the richness of the Mascarpone. The tart is definitely quite heavy for a dessert because of the cream and ganache.


Earl Grey Chocolate Tart

Nutella feuilletine, Marshmallow, Chocolate sponge, and Earl Grey jivara creameux 


Hahaha omg, I can't even understand the ingredients, but judging from the words nutella, marshmallow and earl grey, I think the tart cannot go wrong. The marshmallow creme added some gooey texture to the tart. Overall, it tastes great and the earl grey flavor was very distinct. Maybe less chocolate would be more suitable for my palate.


Banana Chocolate Silk Tart

No doubt this tart deserves to be the best seller of the menu. Sweet and decadent. I didn't order this but I stole quite a few bites. The banana helped to balance the sweetness and they were super generous with the cream on the top. Chocolate and banana is always one of the best combinations ever.


I can't wait for them to promote their vouchers on Groupon again! :P Will definitely get the vouchers again but perhaps the $12.50 for $25 one instead since I'm just interested in the tarts alone!

Fresh Fruits Lab | "Chemistry" High Tea Set

When I first saw Lady Iron Chef's post about Fresh Fruits Lab, I was immediately attracted to the "Chemistry lab-themed" high tea set. I have tried test tube juices before, but an entire set made of laboratory equipment? Nope! The entire set looks interestingly stunning, with legit apparatus like the tripod stand and wire gauze, conical flasks, test tubes, petri dishes, beakers, syringes and even droppers for the sauce. 




When I called the cafe to make a reservation, they were already fully booked by then. So we had to walk in at about 3pm. Don't worry though! There were still a few available tables that were not under reservation.

The cafe design was sleek and clean, with a touch of wooden interior and some funky looking equipment lying around on the shelves. Aesthetically, I thought that the cafe had a pretty cool design and even though I am definitely not a scientist nerd, I am in love with the entire theme. 



Even before taking our orders, this rack of complimentary test tubes were served at our table. From left to right - Beetroot, Pineapple and Orange, Cucumber. Thumbs up for this! Because it already made us happy before we even looked at the menu.

The one I tried was Beetroot and it tasted a little like Vege juice, and it had a refreshing taste. Great for thirst quenchers actually. 


Siyuh ordered a glass beaker of apple juice, while Shiu Heng and I got the drinks included in the high tea set - Orange Juice and Long Black. We were laughing at his Long Black and that it shouldn't be included into the photo because his was apparently not "scientific" enough to fit into the photo. HAHA poor coffee. 


This high tea includes:
- Quail egg and avocado sandwich
- Crispy prawn pop with thai sweet chilli sauce
- Egg mayonnaise in sesame cone
- Cucumber and watermelon Gazpacho 
- Italian braised beef meatball

- Rainbow cake
- Macaron (Chocolate and lemon)
- Orange sable with chocolate cremeux and strawberry 
- Homemade profiterole with mango cream 
- Tiramisu (Mascarpone cream with mocha gelee, toffee sauce, strawberry and phyllo chip)

- A choice of drink (Long black, orange juice or black tea)

$19+/ set (Minimum order of two sets)

To be honest, it is indeed a little confusing. In short, the photo above is $38+ in total, and some of the snacks will not have a pair, which I felt that it was quite unfair since it was stated $19 per set. So why are we not getting double for everything? They might as well state that this entire set is $38.

Actually we were quite surprised with the REALLY SMALL portions. But it's really insta worthy so I guess I don't mind splurging on pretty food once in a while! 

Anyway.. back to the food.. 




 We also ordered the Truffle Fries ($12) which was amazing. Siyuh was already grabbing the bucket and munching on it while I was frantically snapping photos away of the other dishes. The both of them were laughing their heads off because I was so busy trying to use my camera and phone.

They are already familiar with my standard steps - Take photo with camera, take video (for some) and squared photo with phone, then snapchat. This is what happens when you dine with me ok? HAHA. But seriously, the both of them were just waiting for me to finish taking photos before they can even touch the food.

I have not tried many truffle fries yet but I felt that the truffle mayo dip was quite generous compared to some places.

Quail egg and avocado sandwich
 I like how the dishes in this high tea set is deconstructed in a way, which gives its unique form and is also interesting to look at. This is technically not a sandwich but the pastry had a good crunch to it, and though the flavours were not strong, overall it tasted quite pleasant. The gooey yolk also gave a well-balanced texture.

Egg mayonnaise in sesame cone
We thought that this was dessert at the beginning, and after the first bite we then realized its egg mayo. Really well done on the creativity, but the cone fall short by its texture as it was really soggy.

Homemade profiterole with mango cream 
We ate this quite long after it was served, hence the pastry was already very soft and wet and the cream was melting. I cannot really give a fair judgment on the texture but I really enjoyed the taste. There's a sweet tangy flavor to it, but I misunderstood it to be lemon instead of mango (Must be something wrong with my taste buds)

Italian braised beef meatball
 I felt that the meatball was very juicy and soft. But Shiu Heng didn't really like it as he find it too salty for his liking.




Cucumber and watermelon Gazpacho

The Tiramisu is one of my favourite. The combination of bittersweet and creamy butter taste works really well together. I like that they incorporated the toffee sauce into the syringe for the extra fun.



Orange sable with chocolate cremeux and strawberry
I don't know what to say about this dessert, it was the worst out of everything. The only winning point is that it looks really cute in the test tube and the stopper is made of marshmallows. We were really skeptical about it at first and we kept on touching it to see if it is really marshmallow. After I tasted it, Siyuh laughed and said, "What if the person asked us where is the stopper and actually it isn't edible?" :0

Rainbow cake
Rainbow cakes make everyone happy! But the cake itself is a little dry. I didn't have much high expectations about rainbow cakes since it is usually more pretty to look at. 


The FFL wings ($10) has a really good crisp and the hot arrabiata sauce was a perfect complement. The chicken floss was subtle but it gave the chicken an unique twist. I was really in love with the sauce though. And even though there were only 3 chicken wings, the size was pretty huge.


We decided to order the Beer Shroom ($10) for our last dish which is battered mushroom served with garlic aioli dipping sauce (Spicy as well!) It kinda reminds me of the sauce people usually use for tomato pasta though. I would prefer the arrabiata sauce from the chicken wings. Personally, I don't prefer the entire dish to be fried, so I cut off some of the edges and enjoy the juicy mushroom with bits of fried batter dipped int he spicy sauce. 


Even though the high tea set might be quite expensive given such a tiny portion, I felt that it is worth a try if you fancy themed cafes with interesting food decor. After all, if you are splitting the bill among a group of friends just for the sake of pretty photos, why not right?

#We1Sugar POP MY CHERRY Event

Last weekend, Amie brought me to the We1Sugar Pop my Cherry event as her plus one! Before the actual party at Canvas, we had an opportunity to cafehop around the Serangoon x Hougang neighborhood, which was pretty awesome since I have never explored that area before. Our first meet up point is at Hatter Street, which is our first cafehopping location. I probably wouldn't go into full details on the review, but I'll just share some mouthwatering photos to tempt you and maybe recommend some outstanding dishes! 

Hatter Street

The first cafe that we went to has set the standards too high. I'm in love with 2 out of the 3 dishes already. Especially the Smoked Sawdust Pudding which is love at first bite. Creme Brulees and puddings have always been my favourite type of desserts and I enjoyed that extra smoky scent which may not be palatable to many. 

The cafe also had so many pretty props around for photo-taking purposes. One of the essential part of my cafehopping process is to take insta-worthy photos! 




The Pandan Ice cream Whoa'ffles with Gula Melaka sauce is definitely worth a try as well! 





Tai Lei Loi Kei

Since I had a sweet tooth craving on that day, I only took small bites of some dishes, plus the standard was not impressive. I particularly like the curry fishball as it reminded me of the Hong Kong street food (Though the standard is still quite far apart of course). The chicken wings look overcooked as well.








Bee's Cake

Back to sweet desserts again! I was pretty excited to try out the cakes that Bee's Cake offer. They served us Carrot Cake, Red Velvet Cake, Country Apple Cake and Chocolate Praline Cake. My favourite was the Red Velvet and Country Apple Cake. The Apple cake had that nice crunchy texture that was quite appetizing. 

Bee's Cake has quite a small store front as it caters more to online orders or takeaways! So do take note!

Anyway, I haven't really tried to cafehop to so many places before so by then I was already feeling a little lazy and tired. But it's so fun when you have good company! (:

Brunches Cafe

I wow-ed the moment I entered the place, the ambience of Brunches Cafe is so beautiful down to every single detail. I really like the rustic countryside vibe. And they even have a vintage car that you can sit in for a meal!! If I ever visit this cafe again, I'll definitely request for the "car table".

Well, unfortunately, the food did not live up to the standard of its looks. The food was pretty average and I didn't take a second bite of the chicken wings because it was way too salty. Not just for me, but quite a few others agreed too. But their restaurant theme and design really deserves a mention!

Actually by the time we reached this cafe, we barely had much time to eat. At every stop, we gave ourselves like probably 15 minutes or more for photos, and only 5 minutes to eat OMG. Hahaha. That's what happens when you eat with bloggers, photos first!









Cafe Salivation

Cafe Salivation is a western vegetarian cafe for non-meat lovers and vegetarians!
My favourite was the lasagna because of the extra spiciness in it, so even if there's no meat, NO PROBLEM :D

Anyway, we were quite late for the party at Canvas. Imagine all that rush and we are still late ):

Thankfully we didn't miss out much. When we reached the place, we were invited to paint on the guys hahahha. Amie was asking how much they get paid to do this. Want to make a guess? :D I didn't know what to draw so I wrote my initials and draw a smiley face ☺

Maybe should have wrote my Instagram and self-promote right? HAHA KIDDING.


There were free henna services as well, and I have been wanting to try, but usually it costs at least $10-20, so I can't bear to spend. Not sure if there are cheaper ones out there though. I requested for a dreamcatcher design since I'm in love with the intricate details of a dreamcatcher. TADAH~ But walking around with the half-dried henna tattoo was a little troublesome. I ended up peeling off the dried flakes because it's just too addictive to rub it off.


Amie asked me to join her for the Maki-san sushi contest so I said yes! We were given Sushi ingredients and the maki to decorate on the tray. Winners will be judged by the design and the voting on Instagram. S for Sugar, S for sushi! And S for spherepiece (Amie's IG)!

I've always enjoyed the plating process since I found that it is a form of art as well. Really glad that our teamwork was great! (Together with another young boy) Because we actually won first prize! We got $50 CapitaLand mall vouchers each!

To be honest, I've been wanting to try Makisan since a very long time. So glad that Sugar has Makisan! But they are always sold out very early.
